Scottish Athletics National Championship- Grangemouth, August 2016
Arbroath athletes picked up a fantastic 7 medals across the senior and age group Championships. These were spread over two weekends at Grangemouth Stadium. As well as our medal winners there were a host of great performances across various track and field events. Starting with our ladies, there was a Bronze medal for Iona Mcfarlane in the under 15 pole vault- 2.31 and fine throw of 23.40m in her discus to finish 6th. At under 20 Eilidh De Klerk produced a great personal best in the final of the women's 200m to finish 6th in 26.11s, in the senior women's triple jump Ellen Robertson had to deal with some wind conditions and had a best jump of 10.68m. In the under 17 mens age group Joel McFarlane again produced a Triple Gold medal Championship performance by winning the 100mHurdles - 13.61w; 400mHurdles - 56.44(club record)and the high jump - 1.90(club recrd). In the discus Matthew Law produced a best throw of 31.92m: Liam Fotheringham produced his best run of the season at the right time, to win the Silver medal in the U20 200m in a time of - 22.27s(club record) . In the senior mens Championship there were medals for Chris Smith in javelin - 54.58, Silver and Dougie Graham won the Bronze medal in the pole vault with a best of 4.01, while Damien. Murray had a seasons best of 44.76 in the javelin.
